The 3 "Tone" Positions

I want you to picture a Fender Stratocaster in your mind - and take special note to the location of each of the 3 pickups. You will observe one by the neck, one in the middle, and one at the bridge. These pickups all sound very different from one another, simply based on where they are "picking-up" the string vibration! We can use this same idea on the acoustic guitar. Let's try strumming in each of these 3 pickup areas and see what happens!

String Picking Location: The point at which you pick (attack) the strings also shapes your tone:

- Picking near the neck creates a warm tone.

- Picking in the middle of the sound hole produces a standard tone.

- Picking near the bridge generates a bright and treble-heavy sound.
